Ackerman is the oldest established producer of fine sparkling Saumur wines. Founded in 1811, it specialises in making sparkling Saumur and Crémant de Loire wines using the “méthode traditionelle”. At the heart of the area’s troglodyte caves dug out of tuffeau stone, the base wines develop natural bubbles and the galleries bring together the ideal conditions for long and slow maturing on lees – conditions required for the production of the first Saumur fine bubbles. Combining the best of tradition and innovation, it produces expressive and aromatic blends ranging from great gastronomic wines to chic contemporary styles that are perfect for all occasions.
An emotion-filled experience, dear to the heart of our founder, Jean Baptiste Ackerman, whose watchword was: “Bubbles are ephemeral, emotion is eternal”.
Learn all about Saumur sparkling wines and how they are made. This spectacular and interactive visit lets you in on the secrets of Jean-Baptiste Ackerman, the pioneer of sparkling wines in the Loire Valley, and shows how these fine effervescent Saumur wines come into being. Explore the underground cellars hewn from the rock, that are in some places more than 20 metres high. Marvel at the monumental and ephemeral creations of the Ackerman-Fontevraud Scene artists in residence, and conclude your visit with a game for all the family on the theme of the Loire and a tasting of some of Ackerman’s most iconic wines.
At present, the products are chiefly derived from our vineyard, – Les Dames de la Vallée – entirely adapted to the requirements of refined sparkling wines. As a result, we pay special attention to freshness, aromas and balance in view of proposing exceptional fine bubbles.

“Grand Royal” comes from our vineyard located in the village of Le Puy-Notre-Dame.
This cuvée comes from a careful selection of grapes in the heart of the most qualitative plots of our vineyard where there is an important biodiversity identifiable by its multiple species.

We have created Nouvel Esprit in view of promoting the best that appellations have to offer. By deciding not to use sulfites, our growers have to be even more vigilant and innovative to pick healthy and fully ripened fruit! All of the sources of biodiversity contribute to the vineyard’s enhancement with the help of auxiliary crops.

The Chenin, Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc grapes are hand picked at optimal maturity. The bunches are pressed in their entirety (with their stems), so as not to damage the grapes. Each variety is made into wine separately in view of maintaining its typical features up until blending at the end of winter. Cuvée privée, is a blend of the ripest and roundest wines, derived from infertile and limestone terroirs.
